John of Nikiu

John of Nikiu
Bishop of Nikiu in Egypt (q.v.) who authored a world chronicle (q.v.) going from Adam down to the early years of the reign of Herakleios (q.v.). It is particularly valuable for the Arab conquest of Egypt, and for the early Arab expansion generally. Unfortunately, the work survives only in fragmentary Arabic and Ethiopian translations.
